Committees
For this year’s edition of MISMUN, we have chosen seven committees and agendas that are relevant to the present times and current affairs. Each simulation is designed to provide delegates and journalists with an enthralling and engaging experience.
ECOSOC
Agenda : To address the worsening European Sovereign Debt Crisis, its impact on member states, and the resulting socioeconomic challenges.
ECOSOC
ECOSOC stands as one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, dedicated to promoting international economic, social, and environmental cooperation. The Eurozone Debt Crisis has emerged as one of the most significant financial and political challenges of the 21st century. Years of mounting sovereign debt, financial instability, and policy failures have threatened economic growth, social welfare, and regional unity across Europe. Faced with this crisis, ECOSOC must not only restore economic stability through coordinated national and international action but also develop sustainable policies to prevent similar global financial crises in the future.
UNGA (ESS-1)
Agenda – Addressing the attacks conducted against Egypt by the joint British, French and Israeli forces regarding the recent tensions surrounding the nationalization of the Suez Canal.
UNGA (ESS-1)
The United Nations General Assembly Emergency Special Session (UNGA - ESS) is implemented as a failsafe for when the UNSC is unable to maintain peace due to veto powers. In 1956, the Suez Canal was nationalised by Egypt's President, Gamal Abdel Nasser, in retaliation to the USA and UK withdrawing funding from the Aswam High Dam project. Afterwards, Israel invaded Egypt, citing self defence as the reason for the invasion, supported by France and UK. When Egypt refused withdrawal of troops, they were invaded by the two. The delegates in the UNGA - ESS must now discuss the legality of the incidents that occured, as well as ensuring civilians lives are protected in the ongoing crisis.
Darbar-e-Shahanshahi
Agenda: Defending the monarchy against the escalating revolutionary threat by preserving the Shah's authority and restoring imperial order
Darbar-e-Shahanshahi
In the heart of the Pahlavi monarchy, a powerful circle of ministers, generals, intelligence chiefs, and royal advisors gathers as Iran stands on the brink of upheaval. Following the violent unrest in Qom, the first cracks in the Shah’s rule have begun to show. The Darbar-e-Shahanshahi is now the centre of a mounting political crisis, where delegates must navigate rivalries, civil unrest, and growing revolutionary sentiment to preserve the Imperial State before the monarchy itself is threatened.
Caricature
International Press
Political caricatures, or cartoons, are without doubt the most eye- catching part of newspapers, magazines, etc. The job of a cartoonist is to appeal to a larger audience of people who may not have understood the political discussion itself.
Caricature
Amidst the tense atmosphere and intense debates in MUN committees, caricature offers a satirical lens to express ongoing proceedings in a way that both engages and informs the public. It is a humorous and exaggerated representation of a country, leader, or situation in international diplomacy. Rather than serving as official documentation, caricatures aim to highlight or mock the actions, policies, or positions of UN member states and their representatives. The role of a caricaturist is to creatively present important events and complex global issues in a playful manner—blending it with insight to make diplomacy more accessible and entertaining.
Journalism
International Press
Journalism is essential and illimitable. Today’s world is shaped by the constant,
tumultuous flow of information, with journalism at its rationalised centre. This the assignees
must remember as they write on their committees.
Journalism
Journalism is a vital pillar of the modern world. Amid the constant flow of information and an ever-changing society, it stands as the fourth pillar of democracy. Each moment a journalist captures is like a stroke on a canvas, each article a tapestry of words telling the story of our times. As members of the International Press, you are both observers and storytellers- shaping understanding, amplifying voices, and guided always by the welfare of your readers, committing to truth, clarity, and ethical reporting.
Photography
International Press
Photography is a versatile medium used for artistic expression, documentation,
communication, and much more. The Photography division within the International Press offers photographers an avenue to
immerse themselves.
Photography
Photography is a powerful way to freeze moments and tell stories. In the International Press, photographers creatively cover debates and activities across committees, working under different news agencies to explore diverse perspectives. The role requires focus, quick thinking, observation, and efficiency under pressure. Their work not only documents the conference but also reflects its true spirit, inspiring future delegates and highlighting photography’s impact in global conversations.
OC
Organising Committee
The Organising Committee is critical to the overall success of the event. As the administrative body for the entire MUN, this committee is accountable for ensuring that the conference flows efficiently.
